Cari Swann Ashford, a former high school teacher from Morristown, Tennessee, spent much of her abbreviated life offering prayer and spiritual encouragement to those battling chronic and life threatening illnesses. When diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, Cari took it on, as she did every other circumstance that God had allowed into her life, as her mission field. She then went to work. When cancer centers stopped supplying blankets to patients undergoing chemo sessions, Cari encouraged her church’s Women’s Ministry to purchase/create blankets for those in need. Under her guidance, the same group sewed specialized pillows to ease the discomfort caused by seatbelts for those with a port.
When Cari met people who were deeply troubled, she handed out caring crosses to hold, along with scripturally-based notes of encouragement, and always prayed for every recipient. She organized a Bible Study/support group for the chronically ill. In her journey, Cari found ways to reach out to others with the love of Christ that are too numerous to describe.
Throughout her illness, Cari remained a loving and supportive wife, mother, mother-in-law and daughter. Her ministries continue today through the efforts of her church group, beloved friends and members of her loving family.
Cari’s motivation for all that she did was a deep and abiding love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and for those who are suffering. Her strongest trait was her faith in God and His trustworthiness, which only grew and deepened across the years. Her desire was to point others to the strength and comfort that only Christ can give.
As Cari’s friends and family, we are continuing her legacy through this website by offering prayer support and spiritual encouragement to the seriously ill and their caregivers. May God use these resources to comfort and bless you.
