Grant to us, Almighty God, in all times of severe distress, the comfort of the forgiveness of our sins. In times of darkness give us blessed hope, in times of sickness give us quiet courage. When the heart is bowed down and the soul is very heavy and life is a burden; when pleasure is a weariness, the sun is too bright and life is too mirthful, then may the spirit of the Comforter come upon us. After our darkness may there be the clear shining of the heavenly light. Being uplifted again by Your mercy, may we pass on through this our mortal life with quiet courage, patient hope and unshaken trust. Then through Your lovingkindness and tender mercy, we may be delivered from death into the large life of the eternal years. Hear us of Your mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord – Amen.
